This sounds about right – Scary!

This morning in my stumbling around the Tumblr blogs,

I  ran across the Conservative Brew blog

This morning’s article, entitled “Why we will go to war with Iran next year… A future hypothesis”  makes an incredible amount of sense to me.

It’s really the only way for the Dems to win in the 2014 elections.

Then go take your educated self to the phone and call your congress folks, email or write them.

Let them know that we’re on to them and we don’t want any more war!

Work Smart AND Hard

I like Mike Rowe.

As the host of “Dirty Jobs”, Mike went around the country showing what it is like to work with electricians, plumbers, and folks in all manner of other trades.

His show ran for 8 years and in that time he has become increasingly concerned about the lack of folks in the skilled trades.

Though some 12 million Americans are unemployed, roughly 3 million jobs go unfilled in the U.S. because too few people have the skills necessary to do jobs such as plumbing, welding, electrical, construction and related occupations.

“It’s a symptom of a bigger problem,” Rowe says.

“It’s the way we look at work. It’s the way we approach our vocation and the degree to which we assign our identity to what we do.”

Too many people buy into the myth that the only way to get ahead is to go to a 4 year college.

They graduate, then end up owing thousands in student loans and not working in the fields they trained for!

Rowe talks about the worst idea in the history – “Work smart, not hard”

People aren’t going after the skilled trades because the work isn’t attractive or offer a huge payday

Mike’s new poster is for sale HERE – He is using the mikeroweWORKS Foundation to challenge  “…the absurd belief that a four-year degree is the only path to success. We’re lending money we don’t have, to kids who will never be able to pay it back, for jobs that no longer exist,” he explained, echoing what he told TheBlaze TV’s Andrew Wilkow earlier this month.  “That’s crazy, right? That’s what we’ve been doing for the last forty years.”

I have been to college twice in my life. Right out of high school, I spent about 6 weeks at the university of Minnesota studying music.

It really wasn’t for me, even though I was convinced that it was before I went.

The second time I was in my late 40s and I went to Estrella Mountain Community College to learn about computers. I learned enough to keep my own computers ticking over and I make a little money on the side.

I am currently working in NEITHER field.

I grew up with skilled labor all around me. They took pride in their work and in their ability to make a decent living for their families.

I was raised with a good work-ethic and I raised my kids to be the same way.

Looking at what Mike is doing now and thinking about it, makes me wonder why we have been holding so many people back with that craziness. I know lots of folks who bought into that 4 year college dream that never came into fruition for them and many others who did ok, but were unhappy in their lives because they thought they doing what they were supposed to be doing and maybe they would have been happier in the skilled trades, or something else. Who knows?

We need to knock it off!

There is grace in doing a job well, no matter what it is.

Why are we sending money to Pakistan?

In fact, why the hell is our government sending money anywhere?According to ABC News our government has approved $1.6 Billion dollars in economic aid to Pakistan. Some of this money is slated to help their military fight insurgents inside their own country.

Meanwhile, last month the annual pay raise for OUR armed services members was cut from 1.8% to 1.0%   “Citing serious economic conditions affecting the general welfare of the nation”

Our Armed Services members are already paid a pittance!

Many of our military folks make so little that they actually qualify for food stamps.

They risk their lives for our freedom, with some of them paying the ultimate price.

How about some concern for the serious economic conditions effecting the general welfare of our armed services folks?

Why does the current administration have so much disdain for the military?

I guess I would be considered an isolationist for saying this, but shouldn’t we take care of our own people before we go throwing money at a problem that is never going to go away,  in the hopes that it will help us keep China under control?

The only way to keep China under control is to get our own DEBT under control!

As far as Pakistan goes, those people hate us.  They harbored Bin Laden, even when they knew we were looking for him and why.           Then they got pissed because we went in and got him!

How about we let them solve their own problems and keep taxpayer dollars at home where they’re needed most?

That’s what’s on my mind today.

Have a great week!

Source Code Shenanigans

If there weren’t many other good reasons to hate ObamaCare aka the Affordable Care Act, here’s one more.

This National Review article by Andrew Johnson reports that HIDDEN in the source code on the “Terms and Conditions” page there is a warning stating that users should have “no reasonable expectation of privacy”

This is what the hidden statement says:

You have no reasonable expectation of privacy regarding any communication or data transiting or stored on this information system.  At any time, and for any lawful Government purpose, the government may monitor, intercept, and search and seize any communication or data transiting or stored on this information system.  Any communication or data transiting or stored on this information system may be disclosed or used for any lawful Government purpose.

I am supposed to input all of my personal information including some of my medical history, then sign off on that?

Oh HELL no!

I am not naïve enough to think that the government doesn’t know anything about me.

I am well aware of the NSA and Information gathering efforts by other agencies.

But, I’m sure not going to GIVE them anything!

For those of you who are unclear as to how that statement could be hidden on a public web page, here’s a little primer:

A web page is basically a document written in code that tells your computer how to display the content on the page when you click on the link.

Not all of the coded information is viewable to the end user because it’s just stuff the computer needs to know in order to load the page correctly.

Like which font to use, or the background color. The basic structure is like this:

The BEGINNING and HEAD is where most of the info your computer needs to load the page correctly resides.

The BODY is where the content you see resides

There are special tags which can make things like text invisible to the end user in the BODY

This is done mostly so the folks who write the code can add their copyright info or with instructions to other coders for implementation.

I have written a little page to illustrate better how it works

What is important for you to know in the long run is that whether the entire page is visible to you or not it is a LEGAL DOCUMENT, which is Legal and Binding the second you click that “I Accept” Button.

Personally, I am not going to sign up for this thing.

I am not telling you not to, but think about it.

Federal Potty Shutdown Silliness

If the Shutdown by the Feds got any more ridiculous, I’m not sure I could take it!

I was perusing our little local paper The Wickenburg Sun and right there on the front page was MORE Shutdown Silliness!

A local couple took the 4-Wheel trail up to the base of Vulture Peak  and stopped to use the restroom.

They found a notice on the door saying that it was closed due to the Shutdown.

Brenda Hershkowitz noted that “We thought it was pretty funny that the federal government shut down our one little potty…”

I think it’s pretty silly.

Imagine the conversation the guy who actually had to go up there with that sign had with his boss.

Just my thought for the day
